Launch of TaLI’s Five year Evaluation Report

Launch of TaLI’s Five year Evaluation Report

Tag a Life is a learning organization and holds the value of learning from the communities and those who it serves as well as those who support its work and to that, TaLI saw it fit to carry out an evaluation of its work and assessed what worked and what did not. TaLI acknowledges that evaluation is not a snapshot of outcomes at the end of a program to communicate to stakeholders that it was a success or a failure but that it is a tool for ongoing management and learning to improve the organisation’s impact, effiency and effectiveness.

In 2015, TaLI turned five and it is against this back ground that TaLI commissioned an evaluation with the aim of assessing the impact of TaLI work over the past five years. The evaluation was made possible with the gracious support of one of our long standing funders, HIVOS, who’d been with TaLI since its inception. The results of the Evaluation, the lessons leant from communities, the girls, relevant government departments, funders and other stakeholders who was interviewed by the external evaluator were critical in that they came at a time the organisation was working on its next strategy, and the results fed into the subsequent 5 Year Strategic Plan, 2016 to 2020 which was launched at the end of year last year.

From the time TaLI was established, there were various hurdles that TaLI Founder and Executive Director Nyaradzo Mashayamombe and her team had to go through. The launch took place at the elegant Fundraising Dinner which was also a celebration of TaLI’s 5th Anniversary. The Dinner drew the presence of prestigious individuals from all walks of life. Business people such as Eve Gadzikwa, Tsitsi Mutendi and her husband Daniel Mutendi, Tidings Chimphondah, Debbie Kennedy to mention but a few graced the night. The dinner was supported by cooperates such as First Mutual, Securico among many others.

TaLI is a Girl Child Rights organization which worked with HIVOS since 2011 addressing SRHR, Governance and Citizenry, Improving the Lives of Girls in Midlands’ Shurugwi District. The organization also managed to partner with PEPFAR for two years, reaching 4 Districts namely Shurugwi, Zvishavane, Kwekwe and Gweru expanding its work. To date, TaLI has reached 90% of Shurugwi(76 Schools), 76 communities in Shurugwi and Zvishavane. Under the support of HIVOS, the organization managed to reach and assist more than 50 Survivors of Sexual abuse in Midlands, Harare and Mashonaland East Province. TaLI also managed to partner with UN Women in implementing an Advocacy Platform to speak against Violence on Young Women in Private and Public Places.

The evaluation process was highly inclusive of marginalised and vulnerable girls in which ethical considerations were ensured by the consultant to protect the rights of the vulnerable girls including making sure that the evaluation provided a safe space for girls to freely share their ideas and experiences. This included making sure that among the groups included in the study there was a young women only group discussion. The Evaluation was guided by the OECD evaluation criteria of relevance, efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability and impact, challenges and lessons learnt and recommendations were also developed. The launch was a success as it also fed into the Strategic Plan which was also launched on the same day.
